This reminds me of the contract days. Pay too much for a line of service, bit get a free or discounted phone in exchange. And those who aren’t taking advantage are just overpaying for phone service.
The issue is that carriers won't offer deals to existing customers. I have been told I am eligible for an upgrade but in order to get any sort of deal on a new phone I need to add a line/change plans or just switch carriers. It's all a racket to be honest.

Has anyone bought a refurbished iPhone from Woot or other various sites MR has listed previously? I ask out of curiosity in quality.

The only refurbished Apple products I'd buy (and have previously) are from Apple directly. Back when I was service-writing Apple products I looked at so many bad refurbs. It was sad when you'd have an elderly customer come in with battery issues and thought they were under Apple Limited Warranty, when you'd open it up and find so many counterfeit parts with colored sharpie on screws because the previous technician or refurb facility was screwy (pun intended).

Let alone other refurbished units that straight up engrave on the back of the iPhone housing, like Asurion. Asurion is awesome for Pixel phones and some other androids, but I only recommend AppleCare+ for Apple products. Carriers try to push Asurion heavily. When I was still on Verizon it was $15/m for my brother, while my AC+ was included in iPhone Upgrade Program. Or around $8/m if I had bought the phone outside of iUP.

Verizon’s deals are such crap. “With addition of a new line,” like who tf goes around just adding new lines all the time?! Of course most people just want to upgrade, and of course Verizon knows this, but they’d rather shun existing customers in favor of trying to attract new ones. Sad.
